Presentation Description & Topics

The Difference A Moment Makes

Lets get together and talk about how we can use the power of moments to have an extraordinary impact in our life, in work and for safety. Just a moment can be the time it takes for an incident to occur or the time to prevent it. Eldeen will share a journey of how it took a moment for her to change her focus on thinking that safety success requires massive actions, to where the difference of a moment can accumulate into something so much more, and how she uses them within the leadership and safety context.

How to Talk to AH’s,… I mean Difficult People!

Conflict is inevitable – but the way safety professionals manage conflict could mean the difference between a worker going home safely and never seeing their family again. In my epic safety journey I have come across some AH’s,… difficult people. This session is not going to be an “us versus them” session or provision of a magic wand or prayer that will cure the situation,… this session is about hazard identification (ID the AH), risk assessment (how bad is this going to be), and the right control ( plan to deal with others where it can be complicated, messy and unpredictable). Join me in how we can build our capabilities to help us have the best results possible with dealing that AH’s in our life. We will identify a couple different types I have come across in the safety world and provide some suggestions on how to survive and manage them through problem solving and communication.

Make Safety Stick – Communicating so people listen and are motivated

Why can everyone remember that urban legend, a rumour, or a story told over a couple of drinks, but walk out of a safety meeting and not remember the topics discussed that day. As Safety Professionals we communicate in a variety of ways and at times struggle with why our communications did not get attention, resonate, or get the message across like we expected. We will overview the principles of stickiness – simple unexpected, concrete, credible, emotional, use of stories,… that one can apply to ensure successful safety messages and communications that will be better understood, remembered and affect the change you are looking for.

Safety Super Powers – Do you have the Power of Influence?

As safety professionals, committee members, and supervisors we are always trying to get someone to do or believe in something when it comes to safety. How do we get that to happen – by our influence. This session reviews the biggest indicators of influence – reciprocity, scarcity, authority, consistency, social proof, and liking, and how we can use them to make a difference. Practice aspects of power and influence to get the safety message and action done more effectively.

Strategically Unstoppable Safety

We talk about being proactive in health and safety, but can we be doing a better job? If so what would that look like? By asking the right questions, making small shifts we can gain a better perspective. We can overcome the barriers of issue blindness, and then strategically think, plan and act to approach our systems and ultimately safe sustainable business.

Crazy Times & Healthy Workplaces?

Do you feel like nothing is ever going to be the same? Does it seem that all this stuff happening to us throughout the last year is just nuts? How can we cope with so much change in life, and still make the workplace a safe place to be? This session will look at how to focus on workplace health and safety during difficult times. It provides a look at the tools we need to do so, including some things for us not to go crazy in the midst of helping others.
